Frequently asked questions

The short answers to what most people ask. For the full walkthrough, see the Guide; for how your data is protected, see Privacy & Security.

Where is my data stored?+
On your own computer. Statements are parsed and analysed locally, encrypted at rest with a key derived from your sign-in password. There is no server and no cloud.
What does it cost?+

PriLytics is free to download from the Microsoft Store and free to use for your personal portfolio.

It runs entirely on your own computer, with no server, no cloud and no licensed data feeds. There is no recurring cost behind it, so there is nothing to pass on.

Which investments does it track?+
Mutual funds, NPS, PPF, Sukanya (SSA), fixed and recurring deposits, Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) and REITs / InvITs, each with its own analytics, plus a consolidated dashboard.
Which mutual fund statement should I import?+

A Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) from CAMS at camsonline.com, with statement type Detailed and period Since Inception. One CAMS statement covers funds serviced by both CAMS and KFintech, with their full transaction history.

Each import replaces your mutual fund data, so it needs your whole history. A Summary statement, or one that starts partway through, leaves out the transactions needed to work out cost, capital gains and returns, and is not accepted. A KFintech statement lists CAMS-serviced funds by value only, so the CAMS statement is the one to use.

I hold funds from both CAMS and KFintech. Do I need two statements?+

No. Import one CAMS Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) from camsonline.com. Despite the CAMS name it is consolidated across both registrars, so a single statement covers every fund, whether serviced by CAMS or KFintech, with full transactions.

Do not import separate CAMS and KFintech statements. Each covers only its own registrar’s funds and lists the rest by value only, without transactions, so neither is complete on its own.

Does it track funds held in a demat account?+

PriLytics reads mutual funds held in the regular folio (SoA) form from the CAMS/KFintech CAS, and these are covered regardless of how you bought them.

Units held in a demat account, typically bought through a broker, are reported in an NSDL or CDSL statement instead, which is not supported.

How do I import my NPS statements?+

NPS Transaction Statements are issued per financial year by your CRA (Protean/NSDL or KFintech), so import one financial year at a time, oldest first. In the CRA portal choose the Financial Year rather than a Quarter.

Each year is stored on its own, so re-importing a year simply replaces it and never duplicates your contributions.

NPS deducts account charges after each quarter ends by cancelling units. Re-import the current year’s statement about a week after each quarter (end of June, September, December and March) to keep your invested amount, gains and returns accurate.

What statements can I import?+
Mutual-fund consolidated account statements (CAS) from CAMS or KFintech, and NPS statements from Protean/NSDL or KFintech CRA. NAVs are fetched to value your holdings.
How do I update NAVs?+
NAVs refresh automatically on launch. You can also force a same-day refresh from the Update tab once the evening's NAVs are published.
Can I back up my data?+
Yes. You can save an encrypted backup of your whole portfolio and restore it later or on another computer, unlocked with your sign-in password.
Can I track my whole family?+
Not yet, though it is close. Family View brings each family member's independent portfolio into one dashboard, alongside your own. It is built and in testing now, and will arrive as a capability in its own right.
Does it work offline?+
Yes. Everything is computed on your computer. The only network use is fetching public market data, NAVs and benchmark values; your statements and holdings are never uploaded.
How are PPF, SSA and FD values calculated?+

For products with a fixed return that do not move with the market, PriLytics shows two figures, so you always know both the official number and a fair “today” estimate:

  • Account balance (official / passbook). Exactly what your passbook or bank shows, updated on the scheme’s real credit schedule. It reconciles to the rupee with your official statement.
  • Current value (estimated). The account balance plus the interest already earned this year but not yet credited. This is the “what it’s worth today” number, and it’s what the dashboard net worth, allocation, returns and goals use.

Why it can differ from some apps or brokers. Some spread the year’s interest evenly across every calendar day, so a value ticks up daily. PriLytics instead follows each scheme’s own rules, because these products carry a fixed rate and do not move with the market each day. The two can differ very slightly, while the account balance always matches your official records to the rupee. Holdings that do follow the market, such as mutual funds, NPS, SGB and REITs / InvITs, are of course valued at their latest market prices.
