2.5 Real Assets: REITs, InvITs and Gold

Ways to hold real estate, infrastructure and gold without buying the physical asset directly, and the trade-offs, control against liquidity, that come with each route. REITs, InvITs and gold sit outside the usual equity-debt split, each offering a different kind of diversification, rental income, infrastructure yield, or a hedge that behaves unlike either stocks or bonds. The trade-off is almost always liquidity and control, which is why they tend to work best as a smaller, deliberate slice of a portfolio rather than a core holding.
